TRUMP WARNS NIGERIA: U.S. PREPARED FOR MORE STRIKES OVER CHRISTIAN PERSECUTION

In a recent interview and public statements, United States President Donald Trump has issued a warning to Nigeria, stating that the U.S. is prepared to carry out further military strikes if attacks against Christian communities in the country continue. His remarks have sparked debate over Nigeria’s security crisis and national sovereignty, both within Nigeria and internationally.

Trump’s comments followed a U.S. airstrike reportedly carried out on Christmas Day, targeting Islamic State-linked militants in northern Nigeria. According to U.S. officials, the operation was aimed at disrupting extremist groups responsible for violent attacks on civilians.

President Donald Trump has doubled down, warning that the U.S. is fully prepared to launch further military actions if the killings of Christians persist. While acknowledging that Muslims are also victims of insecurity in Nigeria, Trump argued that Christians are being disproportionately targeted by extremist groups and he condemned what he described as a “horrific onslaught” against the Christian community in Nigeria. “The world is watching,” Trump stated, “and America will not stand idly by while Christians are slaughtered.”

The Nigerian Government has consistently rejected claims that violence in the country is driven by systematic religious persecution, stressing that the country’s insecurity is driven by terrorism, banditry, and communal violence that affects both Christians and Muslims. Officials insist Nigeria remains committed to protecting all citizens and addressing insecurity through local and international cooperation.

Analysts within Nigeria have also warned that reducing the crisis to a Christian-versus-Muslim narrative oversimplifies the problem and risks deepening existing divisions in an already fragile security environment.
