U.S. President Donald Trump has once again reignited global controversy by stating that the United States intends to acquire control of Greenland, the vast Artic island that is an autonomous territory of Denmark. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump insisted the U.S. must secure Greenland to prevent strategic influence from Russia or China , warning that “one way or the other way, we are going to have greenland.”
In the remarks, Trump framed the move as a national security priority, expressing concern about accelerated military and geopolitical competition in the Artic region. He sais he would prefer to make a deal with Danish and Greenlandic offiials, but suggested the U.S. would not allow other global powers to gain control if diploacy fails.
In respnse to the widening diplomatic tensions, U.S. and Danish officials are reportedly preparing to meet to discuss the matter further, while NATO allies explore broader Artic security strategies. Observers warn that Greenland’s mineral resources and strategic position particularly for defense and shipping routes make it a focus of intensified great power competition.
Despite the global uproar, Trump has remained unwavering in his position, underscoring that U.S. control over Greenland is essential to counter what he describes as growing threats from Russia and china in the high north.
