Nigerian Army Takes Out Boko Haram Commander Abu Khalid & 10 Terrorists in Sambisa Raid
The Nigerian Army has confirmed a successful night raid in Sambisa Forest, Borno State, that eliminated Boko Haram commander Abu Khalid and ten other insurgents.
The operation took place around 11:00 p.m. in the Komala area of Konduga Local Government Area. Sector 1 troops, working with support from the Civilian Joint Task Force, carried it out without any casualties on their side. Abu Khalid was second-in-command in the Sambisa axis, responsible for coordinating attacks, logistics, and recruitment.
His elimination is a significant blow to the group’s command structure in that area. This success came just 24 hours after another senior commander was taken out, showing the intensity of the current clearance operations across Sambisa Forest, the Mandara Mountains, and the Timbuktu Triangle.
Boko Haram and ISWAP have caused immense suffering for years—millions displaced, communities terrorized, farms abandoned, and markets destroyed across the Northeast and Lake Chad basin. Every high-value target removed weakens their ability to regroup, recruit, and launch attacks. The broader impact is important: safer communities, a better chance for displaced people to return home, improved humanitarian access, and stronger regional stability through the Multinational Joint Task Force.
These operations demonstrate what sustained military pressure, effective intelligence, and community cooperation can achieve. The Nigerian Army, Civilian JTF, and everyone involved deserve credit for this progress. While the fight is far from over, results like this bring real hope for lasting peace in the region and show that persistence pays off.
